Meet our instructors!

Brian Hines, Flight Instructor

Brian is a CFI (certified flight instructor) from Baker College with a target graduation date of spring, 2011. Flying became a dream for him when he was 8 years old on a flight from Detroit to North Carolina with his mother and sister. After "crying like a baby," he loved it the second the plane left the ground. He began realizing his dream after graduating high school from Whitehall in 1998. He recalls working 70 - 80 hours a week as an 18 years old, to get his private license, between landscaping at Michigan's Adventure and waiting tables at Crosswinds restaraunt in Whitehall.

While he's sacrificed so much on his own end, he owes a lifetime of thanks to his mother for her support in making ends meet with his student loans, among other things. Brian views flying as a, "lifetime learning endeavor," and stresses this to his students. He feels that realistic expectations of flight training are important for student success. In his first professional job, Brian looks forward to many healthy years as a professional pilot, and many happy flights with enthusiastic students!

Ben, Flight Instructor

Growing up, Ben always knew he would have a job in the aviation industry. As a local graduate from Caledonia High School, he went on to get his Bachelors degree from Western Michigan University with majors in Aviation Flight Science, Aviation Administration, and a General Business minor.

He worked his way through school working several jobs including a salesman at OfficeMax and a factory worker at Steelcase until he landed an aviation related job as a Line Service Technician at Northern Air in Grand Rapids, MI. After graduating from WMU in 2009, as a commercial pilot, Ben continued to work at Northern Air while doing skydive piloting on the side. He continued his flight training and obtained his CFI during the summer of 2010.

Ben contributes most of his interest in aviation to a longtime family friend who would take him on airplane rides and later let him use his plane in exchange for mowing his 1500' grass airstrip. He is excited to be flight instructing and looking forward to inspiring the minds of many students interested in obtaining their pilot's license.
